ON YOUR TRAIL. OWN YOUR TRAIL.

Trail guide app for Korea

ONYU guides hikers across Korea's trails — verified course guides, GPS activity recording tuned for mountains, and real-time trail conditions, in one app. It is published for iOS and Android and is free to use.

This is an English summary for platform and API partners. The service itself is Korean-language, at onyutrail.com.

WHAT ONYU DOES

Guiding, not just recording

Korean hikers have kept recording in one app, badge collection in another, and course guidance in a third. ONYU brings them together for the trails that Korean hikers actually walk.

Verified course guides

Field-checked hiking courses with waypoint-level guidance — water sources, shelters, restrooms and viewpoints placed on the elevation profile, with distance to the previous and next landmark.

Korea's long trails

The Baekdudaegan ridge traverse is published as 52 courses across 7 regions (687.3 km), alongside dulle-gil loop trails and other Korean long trails. Courses and maps can be downloaded for offline use on ridgelines with no signal.

Recording tuned for mountains

GPS is tuned per activity type (hiking, trail running, running, cycling) and distance is corrected across segments where the signal drops in steep terrain. Recording continues with the screen off and without a network connection.

WEARABLE DEVICE INTEGRATION

Bringing a user's own activities home

ONYU intends to let users connect their sports watch so that activities they record on the device appear in their own ONYU log. Today users can import a GPX file by hand for every activity; a device connection removes that step. The scope below is what we intend to request.

What we would requestCompleted outdoor activities recorded by the user's own watch: activity summary (start time, duration, distance, elevation gain, activity type) and the activity's GPS track. Optional per-sample metrics such as heart rate are stored only when the user's activity already carries them.
Why we need itKorean hikers commonly record on a Garmin, Suunto or COROS watch and keep their trail log somewhere else. Without a device connection they must export a file per activity and import it by hand, so most simply lose the record. The connection lets a user's own completed activities appear in their own ONYU log, on the Korean courses ONYU maps.
What we would not requestNo continuous health monitoring, sleep, stress or body-composition data. We request read access to completed activities only, and only the scopes needed for that.
How it is handledEach connection is authorized by the user through OAuth and can be revoked in the app at any time; revoking deletes the stored tokens. Access and refresh tokens are stored encrypted and are readable only by the owning user's session under row-level security. Activity data is never sold, shared with advertisers, or made public without the user's own sharing action.
